During the time of the revolution in Syria, a friend of mine had uploaded an image on Facebook of his fresh wounds and scars, which he has received on his back from the secret police interrogation during an illegal inquiry in Damascus. This image became the motivation for this work. The wounds were precisely isolated from the man’s back, scaled up to life size and made into an abstract print. Shown layered in a series of five, as each print recedes the wounds, now analogous to brushstrokes become more and more opaque, and eventually disappear.
